Bushcraft and Survival Skills workshop for adults with Rick J Petersen

FNQ Nature Quest is bringing Rick Petersen to FNQ to host a bushcraft and survival skills workshop. This one day training event is for adults keen to develop their skills for personal or professional use. It is suitable for outdoor educators, Scout and Guide leaders as well as anyone who is keen to extend their knowledge and skill set to better equip themselves for adventures in the Far North. Rick is a former member of the Australian SAS Regiment and more recently participated in Series 2 of Alone Australia and now travels all over the country sharing his skills and knowledge.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

We will take the time to get to know each other and connect, whilst Rick shares some of the Bushcraft and Survival Skills he learnt during his time with the Military and as survival instructor.

These skills include an introduction to:

  • Reading the natural environment and learning about the priorities of survival

  • Water collection, filtration and sterilisation

  • Improvised shelter building

  • Creating fire without modern tools such as matches and lighters

  • What we can and can’t trap, harvest and eat when out bush

  • Implementing rescue plans 

  •  Ropes, knots and lashings

There will also be camp fire damper, billy tea provided

The training will be held at The Northern Outlook in Redlynch Valley where we can immerse ourselves in learning surrounded by dense rainforest and running creeks.
